Attitude...Attitude...Attitude
by Ed Hager
Much like the descriptive "Flying 'A' that advertised gasoline and oil products some years back, currently the Big "A" stands for Attitude.
A gentleman by the name of Charles Swindoll once stated that attitudes have a very strong impact on life. He said an individual's attitudes are more important than existing facts, the past, our education, money, appearances or skills that one has.
Attitudes can and will make or break a company, a church or a home -and that's getting real personal. And the remarkable thing is that we have a choice EVERY DAY with respect to the attitude we surround ourselves with THAT DAY. For we can't change the past nor can we change the fact that people will act in a certain way. Nor can we tinker with the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have and what is that?
It is OUR ATTITUDE! It would appear that life is about 10% what happens to you and the other 90% -give or take a few minor percentage points - is how you react to it. For indeed, change does come from within.
I would suggest your approach would be to recognize the situation for what it is. Expect the unusual and approach it with the Walk-In view that your place in life has been preordained and you are here NOW for a purpose. You are here NOW for a reason. You are here NOW to help and assist where and when you can and are able to.
By doing so you can elevate yourself above the fears that may and probably will predominate and this will, in turn, change your attitude about first, yourself and then those about you.
If you have words of kindness, praise or encouragement speak them now to,
and about, others. Listen to your heart and respond.
Someone. somewhere, is waiting for your words! Unless you are one who now
has the proper attitude to confront the challenges in the near future, you've
got to change your attitude. This is the vital force for transformation yours
and everyone around you. Ask your inner guidance for directions. Ask others
who have been down that same road before you embarked on your trek and see
what had happened or is happening to them and then be aware and be guided by
their mistakes or successes.
Make certain you have the base to start your attitude adjustment. Ground yourself by making sure your physical health is at the optimum. If you're not sure about how you are located on that scale of feelings as to what you might do to improve your health, THEN DO IT!
To assure yourself of top physical energy DO IT! And you will be better for
it. This will eliminate that nagging sense of something not completed which
in turn, drains mental energy from you that could rob you and those you are
attempting to help from receiving the fullness of your vitality.
Another attitude "adjustment" would be to acquire as much in the way of knowledge and information about what you sense might be the challenges that may arise in the coming months and years. Learn to maintain your calm and help others without "losing it" at serious moments of stress. Use your talents you are acquiring in whatever manner or form to help.
Over and over again at almost every Walk-In conferences or gatherings, the following statement has been repeated. A Walk- In has returned for a specific purpose to help others in times of need.
Call it a mission. Call it a goal. Call it whatever you wish but there is a purpose for me and each one of you or else we would not be here at this moment-at this time-still questioning our emergence into the garb of a new personage.
I had jotted down some thoughts Carol Parrish shared with us recently at a seminar in Eastern Pennsylvania when, in part, she discussed attitudes. Usually when one hears about a subject that is either controversial, extremely "far out" or causes one to become uncomfortable, then that individual assumes an attitude of disbelief. They just toss the whole subject away by saying, "Nah, that can't be so" or "I just let someone else worry about that or someone will take care of it."
The subject then continues unabated much like the Waco situation, loaded
with controversy and subterfuge. As this grows and festers, whatever the thoughts
and concepts, are then probably next step in attitude would be anger.
As this whole subject continues without any solutions or apparent solving or following some kind of direction, then the attitude turns toward depression or despair or, "How could this have happened?" would be the direction attitudes and feelings may turn.
Then finally, once certain situations have been in place and other challenges and newer ideas and concepts appear on the horizon that could replace the original subject or thought, the finality of the attitude would turn eventually to acceptance.
Carol then clearly pointed out that group efforts combined with group energy can work miracles. Again and again she restated this concept that a group can do almost anything once the minds of those that participate truly engage their hearts, souls and committed spirits.
We all can make that change NOW with just an attitude adjustment to live to our full potential as Walk-Ins have done in the past and will continue to do in the future. We were put ere for a reason. Let's start right now with a renewed attitude.
